| Abstrak | : | Background : Allergic diseases is very common and costly diseasse in adults and children. House dust mite allergens are the most potent allergens causing symptoms of the allergic diseasse . Histamine plays a central role in allergic responses. Effects of histamine can be inhibited by the use of antihistamines agents that act primarily as inverse agonist at the histamine H1 receptor. But there are other drugs that have similar effects to antihistamines is the corticosteroid drugs. Corticosteroids can be used for the treatment of allergic diseases, especially in allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma and urticaria, that act by inhibiting Immediate Phase Reaction, Late Phase Reaction and induces local vasoconstriction. Betametason is one example of corticosteroid drugs. Objectives : This study aims to determine the effectiveness of topical betamethasone as an inhibitor of histamine in subjects with hypersensitivity to house dust mites. Method : This type of research is an experimental study with parallel design. In this study, skin prick tests using house dust mite allergens were be performed on forearm after 30 minutes of treatment with 0,1% betamethasone valerate cream (experimental group) and placebo cream (control group). Interpretation of the results by measured the mean of diameter and area of urtica, at the spot that previously was administered 0,1% betamethasone valerate cream or placebo cream and were performed skin prick test with house dust mite allergens then compared with the mean of diameter and area of urtica, at the spot that only was performed skin prick test with house dust mite allergen on each group. Results and Discussion : From 40 subjects analyzed, showed that betametasone cream with the mean of diameter measurement is effective only on 6 people (] 25% reduction) and ineffective on 34 people.
