| Abstrak | : | Background : Education is one of reason for some people to migration. Increasing number of migration in education sector, enable cross cultural encounters, so that cultural diversity can?t be avoided. That difference will make friction in human interaction, especially for expatriate student from outside Yogyakarta wih local student from Yogyakarta. The impact that caused by, can make an alienation feeling which manifest anxiety and depression to expatriate. Those symptoms usually called as culture shock. Factors that have role in culture shock such as age, gender, ethnicity, language proficiency, sojourning experience, social support, culture distance,personality, level of current dysphoria and coping mechanism. Objective : To identify factors that have role in culture shock which happen to 2011 freshman Medical Faculty of Islamic Indonesia University from outside Java Island. Method : Descriptive analitics with cross-sectional study and randomized to 137 2011 freshman at Medical Faculty of Islamic Indonesia University from outside java on December 2011. Instrument that used to collect data is culture shock questionnaire from Mumford modified by researcher. Data was analyzed with multivariat analitics double linier regretion. Result : In this research, thre,s no respondent has culture shock. But there are different effects between age (p=0,665), gender (p=0,834), ethnicity (p=0,232), language proficiency (p=0,267), sojourning experience (p=0,012), and social support (p=0,981) to culture shock case. Conclusion : Sojourning experience has the biggest role in culture shock to 2011 freshman at Medical Faculty of Islamic Indonesia University and then followed by another factor sequence from the big one to small one, that is ethnicity, javanese language proficiency, age, gender, and social support.
