| Abstrak | : | Background : Progress at this time had brought the adverse implications for health. In developed countries, the transition occurred from the infectious disease become not communicable diseases. In Indonesia is a developing country there are three, namely the disease burden of communicable diseases, non communicable diseases and new diseases. Among non-communicable diseases, cardiovascular disease is a disease that most affects. Among cardiovascular diseases, hypertension was ranked the second leading cause of death due to complications. While in general,hypertension was the third leading cause of death after stroke and tuberculosis. According to Riskesda 2007, the prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia there was 31.7%. Some risk factors for hypertension were age, smoking habits, inaktivity, diet, genetics, and obesity. In Temanggung Regency, which was one of the largest tobacco-producing areas in Indonesia, most of the male population had the habit of smoking and most peoples exposed to secondhand smoke. Cigarette smoke exposure may be risk factors for hypertension, it was necessary to study on the prevalence of hypertension in one area in Temanggung. Objectives : To know prevalence of hypertension in Dangkel Village Parakan District Temanggung Regency at January 2012 Methods : This research was a descriptive study non-analytical categorical The results : There was a prevalence of hypertension in the Dangkel Village Parakan District Temanggung Regency in 2012 as many as 270 patients per 1000 population, or 27%. Based on the distribution of risk factors there were many more cases in men, more than 40 years of age, obesity, and smoking. Conclusion: The prevalence of hypertension in the Dangkel Village Parakan District Temanggung Regency in 2012 was 270 patients per 1000 population, or 27%.
