Abstrak : Introduction: In 2005 the WHO presented a mortality rate of 30% due to heart disease. Pulse pressure is a predictor of long-term mortality in heart disease. To reduce the incidence of heart disease is to exercise to reach your ideal weight. Strength training is exercise that can increase the pulse pressure. Coffee contains caffeine which is classified as a stimulant and compounds most often used in sports. Long-term coffee consumption may lead to vascular stiffness. In order to note an increase in pulse pressure in populations that consume coffee strength training should be conducted comparative research. Methods: Subjects were drawn from members of the Chakras and Max Sport Center Gym are doing strength training. By using a sample calculation of a number of 38 people found the subjects in each group. There are two groups, ie groups that do not consume coffee with coffee consumption. Each group assessed age, body mass index, and blood pressure. Chi Square test was performed to determine the relationship between coffee consumption and pulse pressure. Results: From the calculations using Chi-Square analysis showed that the incidence of increased pulse pressure with coffee consumption has a p value of 0.038, this value indicates that the (p [0.05), there is a relationship between the incidence of increased pulse pressure with coffee consumption. From the calculation of prevalence ratios with 95% CI 1.69 obtained PR values. The correlation used is OR (odds ratio) is equal to 2.644 with 95% CI 1.044 to 6998 means that the group with coffee consumption has 2.644 times the chance to experience an increase in pulse pressure than those who did not consume coffee. Discussion: The strength training that coffee drinkers have a higher pulse pressure than non-coffee drinkers. In the study Vlachopoulos et al in 2005, an increase in pulse pressure due to the stiffness of blood vessels, but other studies conducted by Zampelas et al. (2004) Long-term coffee consumption causes the release of inflammatory mediators that lead to modification of elastin fibers in blood vessels. Keywords: Pulse pressure, strength training, coffee
