Abstrak : Background : Febrile convulsion is the most common form of convulsion in chilhood, occuring in 2% - 5% of children younger than five years old. Parents usually being concerned in febrile convulsion occuring in their children, but actually there?s no harm, such brain damage, that?s happening on their children. Prevalention of recurrent febrile convulsion is at one-third to one-quarterin children with febrile convulsion. Epilepsy developed only 2% of all cases. Objective : The purpose of this study is to determining the characteristics of febrile convulsions and risk factors of recurrent febrile convulsions in child health department Saras Husada hospital Purworejo. Method : This was an observational study, analytic descriptive cross sectional. The sample is all febrile convulsion patients who was admitted in the inclusion criteria. Data was taken by collecting from medical records at Saras Husada hospital Purworejo. Result : Of 107 patients with febrile convulsion, consisted of 40 (37,4%) patients with complex febrile convulsion and 67 (62,6%) patients with simple febrile convulsion. Many febrile convulsion occured in boys. Ratio of boy and girl in complex febrile convulsion was 26 : 14 (65% : 35%), ratio of boy and girl in simple febrile convulsion was 48 : 19 (71,6% : 28,4%). Many febrile convulsion occurred at the age [17 month (58,9%). Of 107 patients, 36 (33,6%) have recurrent febrile convulsion and 71 (66,4%) patients preceding the first febrile convulsion. Duration of 103 (96,3%) patients febrile convulsions was less than 15 minutes, in other side 4 (3,7%) patients were more than 15 minutes. The mean temperature of fever from febrile convulsion was 38,8?C. Respiratory track infection was the major cause of fever from febrile convulsions. In the bivariate analysis we found that age less than 18 month was related with recurrent febrile convulsions (p[0,05). Conclusions : Febrile convulsions events in Saras Husada hospital Purworejo mostly occurred in boys, age less than 18 month, simple febrile convulsion is more than complex, duration of febrile seizure was lesst than 15 minutes, the mean of temperature was 38,8?C.
