| Abstrak | : | Background: Plants contain many antioxidant substances that the body need. Antioxidant was substances which inhibit oxidation by change the reactive free radical into relatively stable free radical. Many research were done to determine antioxidant levels in plants. Rambutan is one of Indonesian local plants which estimated contained antioxidant compound, especially in rambutan peels. Objective: This study aims to investigate antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of rambutan peels (Nephelium lappaceum L.). Methods: This study was an experimental research laboratory with a prettest-posttest with control group. 30 male rats (Rattus novergicus) were divided into 6 treatments groups. Group I (normal control distilled water without induced CCl4), group II (negative control with induced CCl4), group III (positive control vitamin C), group IV, V and VI are given the ethanol extract of rambutan peels (Nephelium lappaceum L.) with dose respectively, 100 mg/kg BW, 200 mg/kg BW and 400 mg/kg BW. Treatment is given for 10 days. All group treated with CCl4 0,1 ml/100 g BW (except, group I) on 11th day research. Antioxidant activity measured by the decrease in serum MDA levels before (0 day) and after research (12thday). The data was analyzed statistically using One Way Anova. Results: In One Way Anova test p value = 0,171 (p]0,05), which didn?t show significant difference against the mean decrease in rat blood serum MDA in all groups. Conclusion: There was insufficient evidence to show antioxidant activities the ethanol extract of rambutan peels (Nephelium lappaceum L.) in decreasing serum MDA levels of male white rats (Rattus novergicus) which has been induced by carbon tetrachlorida.
