Abstrak : Background: Free radical always present in human daily activity which cannot be avoided. Free radical have role in developing of degeneratif disease, but human body have systems against this free radical by decreasing the production and neutralizing them using the substances called antioxidant. Oxidative stress can occur when a compound toxic free radicals such as carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) enter the body too much and antioxidants are available in the body slightly so that it can damage the liver characterized by increased levels of the enzyme transaminase (SGOT, SGPT). Rambutan especially at the peels contain antioxidant which can be used as an exogenous antioxidants in this study. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effect of the ethanol extract of rambutan peels (Nephelium lappaceum L.) on transaminase enzyme (SGOT, SGPT) of rat?s liver that induced CCl4. Method: This study was true laboratory experimental study with a prettest-posttest with control group design. This study used male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) as test animal and expecting protective effect of the ethanol extract of rambutan peels to the liver?s damage in CCl4 induced rat. Thirty male rats (Rattus novergicus) were divided into 6 treatments groups, each group consisted of 5 rats wich Treatment consisted of 3 sample wich was given the ethanol extract of rambutan with the dose given was 100 mg/kg BB, 200 mg/kg BB and 400 mg/kg BB respectively. On 11th day, all group treated with CCl4 0,1 ml/100 g BB (except group III which is the normal control group). Effect of the ethanol extract measured by the decrease in SGOT and SGPT enzyme levels before (0 day) and after study (12th day). The data was statistically analyzed using One Way Anova. Result: One Way Anova test showed that for SGOT p value = 0,085 (p= [0,05) and for SGPT = 0,528 (p= [0,05), this data did not show significant difference between treatmens groups on the level of hepatic transaminase enzyme. Conclussion:. Statistically the ethanol extract of rambutan peels (Nephelium lappaceum L.) did not show significant result on prevention of the level of hepatic transaminase enzyme.
