Abstrak : Background : Asthma was a disease that often found in children. Prevalence of asthma has reported increasing in children and adults. The most high incidence of asthma was considered as a complex interaction between genetic factors and environmental factors. In this study the factors were age, sex, history of atopy (rhinitis and eczema), breast feeding history, family history of atopy, and environmental factors (cigarette smoke, pets, home furnishings, as well as climate change). Objective : To find out the prevalence of bronchial asthma and risk factors who associated with the development of bronchial asthma in children at RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus Palangka Raya. Methods : This research was non experimental study using cross sectional design at RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus Palangka Raya in August-October 2011 with the number of samples of 105 people. Each subject performed by distributed a modified ISAAC questionnaire. Before filling the questionnaire each subject was given an explanation about the disease and the symptoms of asthma in general. During filling the questionnaire, respondents were accompanied by researcher to explain that have not understood about a question in that questionnaire. Data was analysed using Chi-Square test for categorical variables. Results : The prevalence of bronchial asthma in children aged 6-15 years at RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus Palangka Raya in August to October 2011 was 29,5%, while the cumulative prevalence of asthma was 38,1%. Risk factors associated with the development of bronchial asthma in children at RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus Palangka Raya were a history of atopy (rhinitis) related with a history of wheezing, history of atopy (rhinitis) 12 months, and climate changes. Conclusion : The most influential factors for incidence of bronchial asthma in children at RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus Palangka Raya were a history of atopy (rhinitis) and climate change.
