Abstrak : Background: Dengue infection is a disease due to dengue virus infection caused by the bite of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes (females). Since 1968 until 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) noted Indonesia as the country with the highest cases of dengue fever in Southeast Asia. Of the total cases, approximately 95% occurred in children under 15 years. Still difficult to diagnose dengue infection in children and especially in infants, resulting in high mortality due to dengue infection in infants and children due to delay in treatment. Objectives: This study aims to determine the comparative clinical and laboratory disease dengue infection in infants and children in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Yogyakarta. Method: The method of this study is an observational study, with retrospective descriptive analytic cross sectional design with the sample was taken from the population of all patients with dengue infection in infants and children included the inclusion criteria. Data were obtained from medical records of patients dengue infection in infants and children at Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah Hospital period July 2010 - June 2011. Results and Discussion: Of the 58 patients with dengue infection of infants and children are the results obtained in dengue infection, there is no associated between the sexes with dengue infection in infants and children. In addition, there is no statistically significant differences for the clinical characteristics of fever in dengue infections of infants and children, as well as the results of laboratory dengue infection for infants and children there were no significant statistically difference for the increase in hematocrit levels, increased levels of hemoglobin, and thrombocytopenia. There were statistically significant differences from the results of laboratory tests only for the decrease in plasma protein levels in dengue infection of infants and children period Juli 2010 ? Juni 2011. Conclusion: There is no association between the sexes with dengue infection in infants and children. Fever is the most common clinical manifestations of dengue infection in infants and children. The results of laboratory tests to increase levels of hematocrit, hemoglobin levels rise, and thrombocytopenia in dengue infection of infants and children there is no statistically significant difference. The difference was statistically significant from this study found only in decreased levels of plasma proteins which are more common in infants than in children. This shows that the incidence of risk factors Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS) in infants greater than in children.
