| Abstrak | : | Background: Diarrhea was one of the highest causes mortality and morbidity in children. Incidence of diarrhea in the World about 2 billion and there are 15 million children die each year. Diarrhea was more common in children under 5 years (WHO, 2009). From the Health Research Association in 2007 prevalence of diarrheal was third ranked that most frequently occurs in Prov. Riau was 10.3%. While the health data from Rokan Hulu regency, 7.2% suffered from diarrhea Objective: This study aims to determine the characteristics of acute diarrhea in children according to age distribution, sex distribution, the distribution area of residence, parental employment distribution and the distribution of parental education. Method: The method of this study was an observational study, with retrospective descriptive analytic cross sectional design. Sample of this study was taken from population of all patients with acute diarrhea in children under five who went to RSUD Rokan Hulu that met the inclusion criteria. Data were obtained from medical records of patients of acute diarrhea in the period June 2010 -December 2010. Results and Discussion: From the results of research on " Characteristics Of Acute Diarrhea In Children In RSUD Rokan Hulu Province Riau, conducted on 27 June 2011-5 July 2011. Author could take the conclusion that the incidence of diarrhea in Rokan Hulu which went to the Hospital Rokan Hulu about 104 children under five suffering from acute diarrhea. From the data we obtained children under five who had suffered from acute diarrhea most of the age group 0-1 years, or about 61%, whereas the most common sex by the male of about 62.5%. In this area, the most common of the diarrhea patients are from rural areas with 78% coverage, the majority of children suffering from acute diarrhea from diverse backgrounds are educated parent base about 84%. While based on the parents work most of the parents of children who are suffering from acute diarrhea comes from parents who worked self-employed. Conclusion: From the data obtained that most children under five suffered from acute diarrhea were children aged 0-1 years, and male sex. Children under five are suffering from acute diarrhea from rural areas, with education of parents of elementary education and worked mostly as an entreupreneur.
