Abstrak : Curcuma zedoaria (Berg.) Rosc has long been used as a treatment for various diseases one of them as an acne treatment that is caused by bacteri Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical properties of the rhizome extract gel of C. zedoaria and antibacterial activity of rhizome extract gel of C. zedoaria against P acnes and S aureus. The method used in this study is the extraction of maceration using 70% ethanol. Gel formulation made in three formulas with various concentration of rhizome extract of C. zedoaria is 0.3%; 0.6%; and 1.2%. Evaluations were performed on rhizome extract gel of C. zedoaria including organoleptic examination, homogenity, spreadibility, pH, adhesion, and viscosity. Antibacterial activity test was performed using the gel diffusion method in wells. Measurement of antibacterial activity was done by measuring the diameter of inhibition zones formed on the medium. Data were analyzed using the physical properties of the gel while the linear regression correlation antibacterial activity of the test data were analyzed using ANOVA. The results showed that with increasing levels of ethanol extract of the rhizome of C. zedoaria spreadibility will be greater but the stickiness and viscosity will be smaller. Statistical analysis showed that the antibacterial activity of rhizome extract of C. zedoaria gel with concentration 0,3%, 0,6% and 1,2% has a differentt inhibition zone with benzoyl peroxide gel 2,5% and erythromycin gel 2%.
