Abstrak : Carbamazepine is an antiepileptic drug available in a variety of generic and brand names. The aim of this study is to determine the difference in quality in vitro with compare the physical properties, content uniformity and dissolution profile of carbamazepine tablets. This study uses three kinds of carbamazepine tablets consist of innovator product (C), generic branded products (B) and generic with logo (A). Physical properties of the test conducted on the parameters of weight, thickness, hardness, and disintegration time. Disintegration test performed in medium of distilled water at a temperature of 37?C. The assay performed with UV spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 285.4 nm. The dissolution test used a type 2 (paddle) method and rotation speed of 50 rpm in 0.1 N HCl at 37?0.5?C. Weight of three products haveRSD values ranging from 0.77% to 1.2% and have met the requirements. Diameter and thickness of the tablet have been in accordance with the Pharmacopoeia and showed that diameter is not less than 1 1/3 thickness and not more than three times of the tablet. Disintegration time of three tablets obtained ranged from 0.61 to 5.63 minutes and have met the requirements. Content uniformity test of carbamazepine in three products obtained ranged from 93.2% to 94.23% and have met the requirements. Dissolution test showed that three products have met the requirements of not less than 75% can be dissolved within 60 minutes. The similarity factor (f2) and difference factor (f1) test showed that the dissolution profile of product A (generic with logo) and product B (generic brand) are not similar compared to the innovator product.
