Abstrak : Simvastatin is a hyperlipidemic insoluble in water drug. ?-cyclodextrin is used to improve dissolution of simvastatin because its shape look alike cavity with a hydrophilic outer side. This research aims to determine inclusion complexes simvastatin - ?-cyclodextrin using coevaporation method and to determine the effect of using ?-cyclodextrin with inclusion complex method to the dissolution of simvastatin. Coevaporation method was used because this method can prevent the lost of drug if compared with another method. Inclusion complexes of simvastatin - ?-cyclodextrin was made by comparison of simvastatin - ?-cyclodextrin 1:1 M and 1:2 M. Characterization of inclusion complexes were analyzed by using spectroscopy infra-red, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Spectrophotometry uv/vis, TLC and dissolution test. The results showed that the formation of inclusion complex was characterized by a change in the spectrum and intensity of the absorption of infrared spectroscopy, peak shift and arise of a new peak by XRD, the maximum wavelength shift in the spectrophotometry UV-Vis, a decreased of Rf values from the TLC, and an increased in dissolution of simvastatin by dissolution test.It can be concluded that simvastatin can form inclusion complexes with ?-cyclodextrin using coevaporation methods based on the evaluation that had been done, and ?-cyclodextrin can increase the dissolution of simvastatin by the formation of inclusion complexes.
