Abstrak : Nowadays, the use of artistic cosmetics such as lipstik is popular. Various synthetic dyes in lipstick significantly influence human body, so the use of natural dyes possible more safe. Carrot (Daucus carota L) contains carotenoid compound which are yellow to orange pigments. With high carotenoid contain, carrot can be used natural dye. Based on various studies, the use of carotenoid as a dye in lipstick doesn?t produce attractive colour, so a combination with another natural dye is required. Sappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan) contains brazilin compound which are red to yellow pigments. The combination of carrot with sappan wood was meant to produce more attractive color. The aim of this study to find out variation of pigment combination from carrot and sappan wood and discover the safety of lipstick based of irritation open patch test. The variation concentration of combination carrot and sappan wood 3:1, 1:1, and 1:3. The methods used in this study were ultrasonification to extraction carrot and maceration to extraction sappan wood. The result showed that the all lipstick were enough stable, homogenous, and breaking point was 50-60 gram. Melting point of the lipstick 55, 57, and 58?C with pH 3,5; 4,0; and 4,5. The best formulation was found in formula III, the lipstick preparations were easy applied with pH 4,5 and melting point 58?C. the lipstick did not cause irritation so it is safe to use.
