| Abstrak | : | Purwoceng (Pimpinella alpina Molk.) Is one of the plants used in traditional medicine and has long been used empirically to improve the vitality of a man (an aphrodisiac) and laxative urine (diuretic). Some of the aspects that have been reported in plants is purwoceng agronomic aspects, in vitro culture, phytochemistry, and pharmacology. Although purwoceng has been known to the public as a medicinal plant and has done a lot of research, but pharmacological studies on the toxicity has not been done. Therefore, this study was conducted to test the acute toxicity of an extract standardized method purwoceng Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) 423 test on animals Wistar rats. Purwoceng standardized extract obtained from PT. Java Plant accompanied by a certificate of analysis. Test animals used were female rats and male rats many as 18 tails. The treatment group was given a standardized extract at a dose of multilevel purwoceng ie 5, 50, 300 and 2000 mg/kg body weight with an strating dose of 2000 mg/kg body weight. The control group was given aquadest water. Initial observations performed 24 to 72 hours then followed for up to 14 days. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively test the number of deaths of animals, LD50, body weight, and clinical symptoms. The results showed that administration of purwoceng root extract at a dose of 2000 mg/kg body weight in male rats and female Wistar in the treatment group showed no toxic symptoms, does not affect body weight in male and female rats, and root extract valuable purwoceng LD50 (cut off) of 5000 mg/kg body weight which according to WHO categories showed no toxic.
