Abstrak : Ibuprofen is an NSAID drug which serves as an analgesic used in osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis that used 3-4 times a day. To improve drug compliance, dosage form can be modified. One way is make a slow-release tablet dosage ibuprofen with variations of ethyl cellulose as a matrix. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations of ethyl cellulose matrix to the dissolution profile. Low solubility of ibuprofen in gastrointestinal enhanced by melting solid dispersion method using a combination of PEG 6000 and PVP K25 with a ratio of 50% : 50%. The solubility of ibuprofen already rising then the drug release would be controlled by ethyl cellulose matrix so that the drug can be released at a long time. Variation of ethyl cellulose matrix each row formula is 0 %, 12.5 %, 25 %, 37.5 % and 50 %. Dissolution profile data were analyzed with statistical and theoretical approaches through one way ANOVA test with 95% confidence level and the selection of the optimum formula by Design Expert?. Statistical analysis of the Q480 (%) suggests that ethyl cellulose has significant effect on the dissolution profile of sustained release ibuprofen tablet with a value of p [ 0.05. Formula 5 shows the optimum formula that meets the criteria of response by Design Expert?. Keyword: Sustained release, ibuprofen, ethyl celullose
