Abstrak : {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Courier New;}{\f1\fnil MS Sans Serif;}}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\lang1033\f0\fs22 Atenolol is a drug class selective \'df-1 blockers are widely used to treat hypertension, angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction. Atenolol has bioavailability not sufficiently high which is about 50%, so that it can be made in the atenolol transdermal preparations. A transdermal is a delivery system which the active ingredient of the drug through the skin occurs. Propylene glycol is one of the glycol group enhancer to increase penetration, so expect atenolol can be through the skin and can penetrate the stratum corneum. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the levels of propylene glycol in the matrix transdermal of the physical properties of the matrix and determine levels that produce optimum penetration. Matrix formulation is performed by solvent casting method with variations in levels of propylene glycol 10%, 20%, and 40%. Evaluation is performed is test the physical properties of the matrix transdermal include organoleptic test, weight uniformity test, pH test, test thickness, folding endurance test, test uniformity of active substances, as well as the permeation test and test transport in vitro. Analysis of the results performed by oneway ANOVA followed by Tukey's test and Independent Sample T Test. The results showed that the propylene glycol provide significant changes to the physical properties of the matrix transdermal atenolol and the highest propylene glycol produce highest percent of the transport atenolol. \par Keywords: matrix transdermal, atenolol, propylene glycol, enhancer\f1\fs16 \par }
