| Abstrak | : | Kencur has benefit as a sun protector because in the rhizome?s kencur inside essential oil compounds containing active substance the EPMS (Ethyl p-methoxycinnamate) which can reduce the absorption of ultraviolet B rays on the skin. Natural sun protector of kencur essential oil could be made into topical preparation as lotion. Consistency liquid lotion that require a stable viscosity with cetyl alcohol as stiffening agent. This study was conducted to answer the influence of variation concentration of cetyl alcohol to physical characteristic, sun protection factor (SPF) score lotion and responden?s response to sun protector lotion essential oil extract kencur. Kencur rhizome?s essential oils obtained by water distillation method. The lotion made into 3 variation of cetyl alcohol F1 (3%), F2 (4%), and F3 (5%) and then evaluated for physical characteristic such as (organoleptic, homogenity, spreading force, adhesive force, viscosity) and chemical characteristic (pH test and SPF score). Sun protection factor (SPF) score test is evaluated by in vitro process using spectrofotometer UV. The result then analyzed using linier corelation. The results showed that the higher concentration of cetyl alcohol increased viscosity, adhesive force, SPF score, decreased spreading force while homogenity and pH remain unchanged. In the acceptance test respondents, the second formula contained 4% of cetyl alcohol is the most widely preffered formula. Keywords : kencur, EPMS, cetyl alcohol, SPF |
