| Abstrak | : | This study was conducted to determine the hypoglycemic effects of ethanol extract of bitter melon fruits and ethanol extract of the pahitan leafs in male Wistar rats induced by alloxan 150 mg/kg on 0 day and 75 mg/kg on 3rd days with fasting blood glucose parameters. A number of 35 male Wistar rats have divided into 7 groups (N=5). Group I untreated, group II only induced by alloxan 150 mg/kg ip in rats, group III induced alloxan 150 mg/kg rats then treated with glibenclamide 0.09 mg/200g, group IV;V;VI;VII induced by alloxan then treated with ethanol extract of bitter melon fruit mg/200g 160, 210 ethanol extract of pahitan leafs mg/200g;combination of bitter melon fruits and extracts of pahitan leafs 40 mg/200g and 157,5 mg/200g;120 mg/200g and 52.5 mg/200g. Measurement of fasting blood glucose levels performed on 0 day ,4th day , 11st day, 18th day and 21st day by taking the blood of rats that had previously been fasted. The results showed that male Wistar rats decreased fasting blood glucose levels after receiving 1st dose, 2nd dose, 3rd dose and 4th dose with each the end of fasting blood glucose levels of 145,36 mg/dL, 134,64 mg/dL, 101,18 mg/dL, and 114,84 mg/dL. The finally results of the study showed normal blood glucose levels on the positive group, third dose and fourth dose. In conclusion, the combination dose is more effective than a single dose of either ethanol extract of bitter melon fruit and ethanol extract of pahitan leafs in lowering blood glucose levels to the normal range.
